This is amazing news. I believe in the mission of making it easier to build, deploy, and ship web apps.<\/p>\n<p>USD 21M in funding comes from some of the best VCs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Accel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/crv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CRV<\/a>) and impressive individual investors (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jordwalke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Walke<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/natfriedman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nat Friedman<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/floydophone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pete Hunt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jessfraz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jessie Frazelle<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/soleio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soleio<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/naval\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naval Ravikant<\/a>, and several others to list).<\/p>\n<p>Vercel&#8217;s founder, Guillermo Rauch, <a href=\"https:\/\/rauchg.com\/2020\/vercel\">announced<\/a> the change. It&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/vercel.com\/blog\/zeit-is-now-vercel\">official<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"why-change-the-name-to-vercel\">Why change the name to Vercel?<a href=\"#why-change-the-name-to-vercel\" class=\"heading-link\">#<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>I have no insights into the official decision making here, I personally loved the name ZEIT but it did take me some time to figure out how to pronounce it right. It&#8217;s a german word right.<\/p>\n<p>I imagine people found pronouncing ZEIT harder than they would Vercel. If you check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notion.so\/Change-Timeline-fab7622780694753a92c0a396cea7eb6\">change-timeline<\/a> they are changing everything to Vercel. Instead of ZEIT + Now, there will now only be Vercel and Vercel&#8217;s CLI.<\/p>\n<p>This could also be a pivot on front-end tech in contrary to backendless backend what used to be ZEIT&#8217;s messaging. I think it makes sense.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"postcontents full dark\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<h2 id=\"next-js-vercel-why-im-excited\">Next.js &amp; Vercel: Why I&#8217;m Excited?<a href=\"#next-js-vercel-why-im-excited\" class=\"heading-link\">#<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<section class=\"postcontents wrapper\">\n<p>About a week ago I announced my <a href=\"https:\/\/NodeCLI.com\">NodeCLI.com<\/a> course. It&#8217;s the same site I had built for <a href=\"https:\/\/VSCode.pro\">VSCode.pro<\/a> \u2014 but I have switched over from Gatsby to Next.js. I couldn&#8217;t be happier. Lots of reasons why:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\ud83d\ude80 <strong>Vercel is super duper fast<\/strong>. I used to have 3-5 mins long build pipeline with Gatsby.js and Netlify. Now my site gets built-in 50 secs. That&#8217;s a big deal for me.<\/li>\n<li>\ud83e\udd16 <strong>Google loves fast sites that are not all JavaScript<\/strong>. That&#8217;s true. Google wants you to build sites that are performant by default. Next.js has performance built-in. Both SSR and SSG builds help you feed your HTML to Google the way it prefers. That helps your Google rankings, something I believe has a direct impact on my business.<\/li>\n<li>\ud83d\uddc3 <strong>Next.js has the right idea<\/strong>. Whenever I build a JAMstack site, I end up with the need to scale beyond just static. I want a hybrid approach. This is something you understand once your static site is in production. With Next.js, I can make a page:<br \/>\n<strong>CSR \u2014 <\/strong>Client-Side Rendering<br \/>\n<strong>SSR \u2014<\/strong> Server-Side Rendering<br \/>\n<strong>SSG \u2014<\/strong> Static Site Generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2026and with every PR getting a deploy URL preview, code collaboration becomes super fun. This is the feature that comes in handy for SaaS companies that I&#8217;m consulting with. Save everyone a lot of time.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also an RFC on incremental builds that in near future will even further improve the build times for large sites. The biggest static site I have built had about 21,000 pages.
